THE Asosasyon ng Panadero sa Pilipinas (APP) is urging the government to provide subsidy for small bakeries in the country.
According to Luisito Chavez, presidente of the APP and owner of ‘Tinapayan Festival’ baksehops, this is meant to enable the small bread makers to cope up with the rising costs of expenses.
Chavez said that the price of cocoa has risen by almost 50 percent which makes it inevitable to also increase the prices of cakes and pastries.
Currently, he said they are monitoring the movement on the prices of sugar, flour and wheat in the market, specially with the onset of “ber months.”
Chavez said that all the primary ingredients in making breads are now imported and that in his case, he does not use local sugar since the imported ones have better quality and are best for making ‘ensamayda’.
” Mas maganda ang imported dahil mas refined kumpara sa asukal sa Pilipinas,” Chavez said, noting that even the makers of ‘pandesal’ and ‘tasty’ are also seeking to increase their prices.
Chavez said they cannot assure that they will not hike the prices of their products, specially the smaller bakeries.
