THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Cebu City Field Unit (CIDG-CCFU) apprehended the alleged team leader of the Special Partisan Unit (SPARU), the hit squad of the New People’s Army (NPA), for double murder charges, at the Plaza sa Katawhan, Cebu Coastal Road, Cebu City, at around 9:30 p.m., on Friday, December 13.
The suspect, Marlo Jakosalem, 30, also known as Ka R-R, is from Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, but he had been hiding in Cebu City after finding out that Judge Rosario Carriaga of RTC Branch 64, Guihulngan City, had issued an arrest warrant for double murder on December 20, 2020, with no bail recommended.
Jakosalem joined the NPA in 2016.
He quickly rose through the ranks after undergoing ideological indoctrination and engaging in insurgent activities.
His first encounter occurred in 2018 in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental against the Philippine Army.
He went back to Guihulngan City in 2019 to continue running the underground movement, and was later sent to Isabela, Negros Occidental, where another armed clash occurred.
In 2021, he was promoted as a squad leader of squad 1, Sandatahang Unit Propaganda, Platoon Central Negros 1, taking charge of NPA recruitment in Negros Occidental.
In 2022, he went into hiding after receiving information about a pending warrant for his arrest. (AYB)
