MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala jumpstarted her Women’s Tennis Association 125 Mumbai campaign on a high note after dominating Sara Saito of Japan with a 6-1, 6-0 rout on Monday at Cricket Club in India.
It took 61 minutes for Eala to sweep the Japanese and advance to the round of 16 of her fifth tournament this year.

Eala will face either Mia Hontama or Nao Hibino in the next round as the Japanese netters clash in the round of 32.
The 19-year-old Filipino beat Saito for the second time in a row after eking out a 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 7-5 in the Singapore Open qualifiers last week.

Eala missed the main draw of the Singapore Open, following an early exit in the W100 Bengaluru — her first tournament in India this year.

The World No.137 netter from the Philippines will also compete in the WTA 125 Mumbai doubles with her partner Tsao Chia Yi of Chinese Taipei.
They will take on Russia’s No.2 seed Amina Anshba and Elena Pridankina on Wednesday afternoon (Manila time).
