Last Saturday, January 4, 2025, the University of the Assumption High School (UAHS) Batch 2000 held its 25th-year reunion at the Kingsbrough International Convention Center. I attended the said reunion along with my best friend Dra. Karen and other close HS friends and classmates.
It was my first time attending such gatherings, and I should say that partaking in these kinds of events is enjoyable and meaningful at the same time. For some time, I have dreaded the thought of attending reunions despite the constant prodding from my best friend due to some personal reasons. However, when Dra. Karen asked if we could attend the recent gathering, I’ve given it a quick thought and assumed that it would be a pleasant experience.
Indeed, it was not just because of the grandiose venue and activities alongside, but it came from my internal composure and confidence of finally meeting high school classmates and friends once again. When our former guidance counselor Sir Jonathan Tinio delivered his message during the program, he mentioned that the common reason why batch reunions have a limited number of attendees because most are reluctant to show up. He said that many people believe that reunions are occasions where batchmates tend to brag about accomplishments and status in life, hence those who are struggling in life choose to skip this get-together.
I, for one, was a bit hesitant to attend because of my current physical appearance because I have obviously gained weight. I just can’t refuse the invitation of my best friend to attend, and I am quite thankful that I overcame this feeling and decided to go after all.
Once we arrived at the venue, I saw familiar faces and greeted all my classmates. What was reassuring was the thought that some of my classmates and friends from other sections were the ones who approached me for some friendly hugs and kisses. I felt that I was loved after all. That thought lightened up my heart and made me realize that catching up with some friends and batchmates is a meaningful experience that I should be grateful for.
I also appreciate the opportunity to see our former teachers as well as our School Principal, Mr. Pedro Martin. Seeing all of them made us all go back in time and relive the happy days we had during our high school days at UA.
Our UAHS Batch 2000 25th Year Reunion was a resounding success because of the dedicated efforts of our Batch Officers led by Khaye Pangan of St. Bartholemew. Cheers to our batch for having survived 25 years after our high school graduation!
