LAND Transportation Office, Regional Law Enforcement Section Head Yuri Lim, during the Madayaw Morning program on Tuesday, reminded drivers, and also passengers, against the policy on no pick up outside terminals.
He said that drivers caught picking up passengers from the roadside are fined P1000.
“Ang gistriktuhan ang pagkuha sa pasahero outbound na siya, ang pagkuha diha sa pasahero nga nag-atang sa bus stop or highway or usahay sa gawas sa intersection. Mao na ang ginadakop sa enforcement (What we strictly disallow is the picking up of passengers when the vehicle is already outbound, for example, passengers waiting at the bus stop or highways outside intersections. These are the instances where drivers get apprehended by the enforcement),” Lim said.
As to dropping off passengers, Lim said that it is allowed at bus stops only.
“On the part of the LTO, in dropping off passengers, naay certain distance, for example, Davao City na siya, naa ta’y bus stop, for example, sa Puan, pwede siya munaog, ang ginastriktuhan gyud kay ang pagkuha sa pasahero (On the part of the LTO, in dropping off passenger, there is a certain distance, for example, the bus is already in Davao, we have bus stops, for example, a passenger can disembark there, what is barred is the picking up of passenger),” Lim said.
Aside from drivers Lim also urged passengers to go directly to terminals for safety and security.
“Ma-inspect ang atong mga gamit, mga bag, mga boxes, at least kampante ka aning bus walay sagol (Your things, bags, boxes are inspected. At least you are assured that in the bus, there are no illegal things onboard),” Yuri said.
Lim, on behalf of the LTO, also reminded the public, motorists, and passengers to prioritize their safety during the Yuletide Season.
“Sa atoang motorista, pedestrian, commuters, kanunay nato iremind atong kaugalingon safety first before everything, mao na sa karon nga panahon busy ang kalsada, busy ta tanan nag apas ug oras ug unsa dapat buhaton but, nevertheless, dili nato kalimtan ang safety sa atong kaugalingon, sa atong pamilya, sa atong kauban sa kalsada (For our motorists, pedestrians and commuters, we remind you to always put safety first. Currently, the road is busy, all are in a rush to do things, but nevertheless, we must not forget our safety, that of our families, and those who are using the road),” Lim said. CIO
