CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Central Luzon reported over the weekend the completion of two infrastructure projects in Bataan and Tarlac provinces.
In Hermosa, Bataan, the agency said it has completed a 558.09-lineal-meter flood control project along the Mabiga River designed as a key route for the region.
The project is expected to ensure stable access and safeguard ongoing construction during heavy rains and typhoons.
The P72.38-million project is six meters above the riverbed and built on a steel sheet pile foundation.
It was designed to provide long-term durability and effective flood damage prevention.
In Tarlac province, the DPWH said a P47.8-million slope protection structure along Susubaen Creek in Ramos was completed.
The flood control project includes slope protection and road enhancement components, including surface courses, earthworks, bank and slope protection work, and a drainage system designed to strengthen defenses against rising floodwaters.
“An integral component of this design is the hydraulic gate to effectively control water flow within the system, ensuring improved water distribution across the area,” the agency said.
The DPWH Central Luzon ssid the municipality of Ramos, known as a hub for rice and corn production, faces recurring flooding issues that endanger its farming communities and local economy.
These challenges prompted the government to invest in long-term flood control measures.
Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, the project is expected to enhance residents’ livelihood, improve accessibility, and foster a safer and more prosperous community.
