Former Labor advisor Simon Banks says Australia’s priority is in the South China Sea, not the Red Sea.
Mr Banks’ comments come as Defence Minister Richard Marles revealed the Albanese government would not be sending a warship to support the US in the Red Sea.
“I love the Opposition running around talking to us about how 12 per cent of the world’s trade passes through the Red Sea,” he told Sky News Australia.
“It’s a really important trade corridor.
“But 40 per cent of the world’s trade passes through the South China Sea.
“That is Australia’s priority.”
