ALEC STOCKTON hit the game-winning buzzer-beating basket as Converge nipped San Miguel Beer, 114-112, on Monday in Game 3 of their best-of-five quarterfinal round of Season 49 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Starting center Justin Arana muscled his way with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Game 3 hero Stockton added 20 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, as the FiberXers were able to slice the series deficit to 1-2.
After Marcio Lassiter’s game-tying three free throws off Arana’s foul with six ticks to go, Converge called a timeout and ex-Beermen guard Alex Cabagnot had inbounded the ball to Stockton who dribbled his way to score the game-winning buzzer-beating jumper.
Jalen Jones scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds also for the FiberXers while Bryan Santos fired five triples for 15 points and King Caralipio had 11 points. Deschon Winston contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four assists also for Converge.
SMB’s EJ Anosike scattered 39 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Game 4 is set on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
