La Union has been a fan favorite for barkada road trips and family weekend vacations because of how accessible it is to Metro Manila. Tourists love to flock to the Urbiztondo area in San Juan, La Union because it’s more famous, but if you want to explore other parts of the town (and other neighboring towns), might we suggest you start with booking your stay at Kalgaw La Union.
Kalgaw La Union offers multiple vacation villas for rent in San Juan, La Union. The villas are nestled along the quiet provincial road, with two different towns accessible with just a quick drive.
From Kalgaw, you can go to Bacnotan and check out the less-crowded beaches, or visit San Gabriel which is home to the famous Tangadan Falls. It’s also just a short drive away from the famous surfing spots and restaurants in San Juan, La Union.
If you’re planning to experience more than just surfing in San Juan, Kalgaw’s location offers a great opportunity for you to explore.
Kalgaw doesn’t just offer a unique location in La Union, but the property itself is a scene stealer. It stands out amidst fields and lush foliage. It’s hard to miss it when it’s an elegant all-white property standing proudly just beside the road.
Kalgaw La Union is comprised of three villas that can be booked separately, so you get a bit more chance of securing a reservation during the busy weekdays. However, you can also book the whole place exclusively if you need every room available. It can accommodate at least 16 people in total. If you want to bring in more quests, you can do so with additional fees.
For the big families or massive groups who want exclusivity, you can book the Family Villa good for 10-12 people. It is spacious yet intentionally designed so that every nook and cranny is maximized.
Upon entering the villa, you’ll be welcomed by their super helpful and accommodating staff at the reception desk. Stepping further into the villa, you’ll find the first bedroom with one queen-sized bed, one single bed, and a spacious private bathroom.
Beside the bedroom, you’ll find the outdoor kitchen and dining area which also doubles as a living area.
The massive dining table can easily seat 10 people. The kitchen is fully stocked with essentials—from a full-sized fridge to cookware and complete dinnerware. There’s also a smart TV and a cute private plunge pool. It’s 4 feet deep, so be careful if you’re staying with toddlers.
We love how the dining area and kitchen turned into a pocket of paradise with the plunge pool surrounded by plants (and healthy trees outside the property). With that kind of environment, anyone would be willing to prepare food and wash dishes for the group.
Moving on to the second floor, there’s a loft-type lounge area with two comfy sofas where you can relax and cool down with the AC. There are two bedrooms, both with two queen-sized beds and private bathrooms.
If you’re traveling in a smaller group, you can also check out the two loft villas on the other side of Kalgaw.
The first loft villa is for 2-3 people, while the other (more spacious) villa can easily accommodate 4-5 people.
Both loft villas feature a Japandi tiny house-style layout with the kitchenette, dining area, private bathroom, and living area (complete with a comfy sofa beds) are all located on the first floor.
In the lofts, you’ll find comfy beds, a full-sized mirror, and a cute clothes rack for extra storage. There’s also more than enough space in the loft for extra floor mattresses in case you need extra beds.
Both loft villas have access to a shared outdoor pool which is considerably bigger than the one in the Family Villa. Outdoors, you’ll also find a couple of lounge chairs for those late-night conversations under the stars.
It’s actually amazing how the loft villas can be both spacious and intimately cozy.
Nikka and Nikko Tumbaga, the owners of Kalgaw, share with WhenInManila.com that it was their love for Japandi-style design that led them to design their villa in the same way.
“The goal was to create a peaceful and relaxing space where guests can feel at home,” they shared.
Personally, what I loved most about their villas was the extra care and comfort they offered their guests through simple and little things.
In the kitchen there were free coffee, a few cooking staples (like cooking oil and salt & pepper), and drinking water. In each bathroom, there were complete toiletries, including dental kits, disposable dental floss, and even Band-Aids in case you need them. You can’t even find these simple things in some budget hotels!
