Six people have suffered head injuries and stabbing wounds in Taba, an Egyptian town near the Israeli border, it has been claimed.
Reuters reports that three Israelis and two Egyptians were injured. Sky News reports that three Egyptian workers were injured.
Troops have reportedly been deployed to the location alongside Egyptian police.
Magen David Adom, Israel’s National Blood and Medical Emergency Service, is waiting at the border with ambulances.
The violence started after tourists did not pay for their bill at a hotel, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al-Qahera News reports.
The incident reportedly took place at the five-star Movenpick Resort.
A high-ranking Egyptian source has denied reports that Israelis were targeted, saying the incident was not “against their citizens”.
Al-Qahera News TV says that all those involved in the incident have been taken to hospital while police investigate.
