SOME 169 marginalized workers in two towns in the province of Zamboanga del Sur have received over P4.7 million worth of livelihood assistance from the National Government, through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Albert Gutib said that 106 of the 169 recipients are from the town of Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur and the remaining 63 from Sominot in the same province.
Gutib said assistance made possible through DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and were handed over to Dimataling Vice Mayor Omar Buluan and Sominot Mayor Johnriel Melo on Thursday, January 9.
Gutib said the livelihood assistance, provided under DILP, include various kits tailored to the needs and skills of the beneficiaries: Gardening/Farming Kits, Carpentry Kits, Dressmaking Kits, Vulcanizing Kits, Cosmetology Kits, Carwash, Beauty Salon Kits, Masonry Kits, Welding Kits, Baking and Pastries Kits, Bibingka Production Commercial Cooking Kits, Barber Kits, Electrical, Automotive Painting, Small Engine Repair Kits, Fried Chicken Vending, Fruit Salad Vending, Balut Vending and Egg-Laying Production.
He said the DILP, also known as the Kabuhayan Program, aims to empower poor, vulnerable, and marginalized workers by providing grant assistance for livelihood and entrepreneurship ventures.
He said the program supports the government’s poverty reduction and inclusive growth initiatives by equipping individuals and groups with the resources and skills to improve their economic well-being. (SunStar Zamboanga)
